In 312 AD Constantine defeated vastly superior forces to become Roman emperor. He said he owed his victory to the Christian god, for he had seen a cross
in the sky (an actual cross of stars did occur, page 19) with "in this sign you shall conquer" above it. In 325 he convened the First Council of NIcea in which the
Christian church codified its denial of the soul's divine origin, later rejecting reincarnation (Jesus disagrees: Matthew 16:13-14, 17:10-13) and embracing original sin.
